History of Hugh Finklea Cemetery |
Hugh Finklea, of the Finklea Families of Monroe County, was living with his wife Cuzzie, daughters Julia Ann, Milly A., and son, Alex according to the 1860 Conecuh Census. Hugh was 72 years of age then, with Cuzzie at 51, she had first been married to Hugh's brother. Cuzzie and Hugh married sometime after Charles Finklea died circa 1836. Cuzzie;'s maiden name was LANE. Hugh died 18 Nov. 1861 and buried on his plantation in Conecuh County. If you were at Sparta, AL, and crossed the Murder Creek, and today, you'd have to cross the railroad to get to where his plantation was. The Nettles Family of Monroe County are descendants of this family as well.
