Notes on Daniel Eli Witherington and family:
| Married in the Baptist Church in Evergreen | |
| Daniel E. Witherington operated a hardware store in Evergreen | |
| Son of William Leander Witherington and Eliza Johnson, and it is likely grew up in the circa 1856 Witherington Plantation Home | |
| Sherry Johnston research found D.E. Witherington and Mary L. Witherington's name on Deed for Property now belonging to Diane Sharpe Sosebee. They are researching the history of their home on McMillan Street, and when she saw the deed, she recognized the D.E. Witherington name. She made a copy of it for our research purposes. It was known as the Cunningham home and we're still researching several of those homes because the neighborhood may be declared an Historic District in the near future. The home right next door is known as the Etheridge Home, and we've determined it to have been built ca. 1897 or earlier; and it has been sold and is in process of being restored. More recent years it was known as the Byrd Home; Malcolm Mills, from elsewhere, has purchased the home. |
