Newspapers Available on Microfilm

Here is the listing of newspapers there were present in Conecuh County and that the Evergreen Public Library has either on microfilm or in bound copies. The Evergreen Courant ones we do have on microfilm and bound from about 1960 up to 1978 or so, then from there on up we have them up to present day. If we have earlier ones that are bound, we do not allow patrons or visitors to view them, as they are in delicate condition and only have them for viewing through the microfilm records.

Note: During the years of 1896 thru 1927, there were two weekly newspapers running in the county - The Conecuh Record and The Evergreen Courant. Same for The Star, the News, and the Conecuh-Escambia Star. Many times, an obit or tribute would run in either or both papers. Many times, the microfilm will contain both or several papers on one single roll. The Conecuh-Escambia Star became "The Star".

The following newspapers are also on microfilm at the Evergreen Public Library

Covington County Appeal
Covington Enterprise
Covington News

Crenshaw County Critic

Florala, News
Leighton News

Opp Era

Opp Messenger
Peoples Gazette
Reaper
Sheffield Standard
Tri-Cities Daily
Tuscumbia Dispatch
Weekly Dispatch

Many of these , we may just have one or two issues. We also have a few bound copies of anniversary issues; such as the The Opp News which has some articles from the Brooklyn area and a Confederate Centennial Edition; as well as an 1898 Evergreen Courant Bicentennial Edition. One of the best Courant's is one that was done in 1930, which was called a Historical Edition, and contained lots of history of the county enclosed.
